What is
Reflections
A.
The nationwide Reflections program is sponsored by PTA and offers
students the opportunity to create works of art for fun and recognition.
Students are encouraged to create and submit works of art in
literature, music composition, photography, visual arts, video
production and dance choreography.
How
do we get involved?
A.
In October, students will have an opportunity to participate in
Reflections by creating original works inspired by this year’s theme,
“WOW!” Each student can
submit as many entries as they wish.
Entries can be created in or outside of school and must be
completed by one student. Entries
will be critiqued against others in their grade division, and may
advance from local to council, district, state and national levels.
All entries will be recognized with a participation award!
What
kind of art can be entered?
A.
Students can enter any or all of the following categories:
Literature: Prose, poetry, drama,
short story (2,000 words or less)
Music: Original
music composition
Photography: Single
photo or photo collage (11x14 or less)
Visual Arts: Print,
drawing, painting, collage, needlework—no 3-D
Dance Choreography:
Dance set to music, choreographed by the student
Video Production:

Why
is art important?
A.
The fine arts are a vital part of the complete education that
every child deserves. When
children express themselves through words, pictures, music, photography
or other art forms, they grow intellectually.
When children participate in the arts, they score higher on
standardized tests, improve literacy skills, develop problem-solving
skills, become more creative and learn to appreciate other cultures.
