COMMITTEES FOR THE 2006-2007 SCHOOL YEAR: MEMBERSHIP/VOLUNTEER COORDINATOR: JULIE NAVARRO
The Membership Committee recruits members and collects dues. Each year Texas PTA has a membership theme.This year's theme is "Unlock the Future with PTA". The duties of the Membership Committee include preparing forms, maintaining accurate records for a procedure book, sending necessary dues and forms to State PTA, and passing on pertinent materials to successors .The Volunteer Coordinator will work with all Committee Chairs to help line up volunteers as events come up. The Volunteer Coordinator should like to talk to people, on the phone and through e-mail. Most of the volunteer work for this committee will be administrative or marketing/PTA type activities. There can be either one person doing this job or, 2 people working closely together.
SPRING FLING CARNIVAL : Co-Chair: Shawna Winn and CO-CHAIR ~ OPEN
Spring Carnival is PTA’s biggest fund raising event of the year. Each teacher sponsors a booth and gets to keep the money from ticket's/wrist bands sold. Activities are fun games or challenges rock climbing wall, bouncer, photo booth, Families buy tickets in advance or at the carnival to play the games and activities. There is also a huge raffle of donated prizes which is very fun and the families really love the suspense. Cake walk and a silent auction are also part of the carnival. This event is divided into many areas:
We will need people to Chair each individual area.

Carnival Food Chairperson: Responsible for all food related areas of the Carnival coordinating the menu/volunteers and setup and cleanup the day of the carnival.

Carnival Game Chairperson: Responsible for organizing the game set-up, organizing where things will be placed, set-up and take-down the day of the Carnival and some organizing preparation a few weeks before the carnival.

Carnival Publicity Chairperson: Responsible for making and sending out newsletters to all school students, posting information around the community 3-4 weeks in advance. Placing ads in the Belton Journal about the carnival and then,later thanking our businesses that provided donations.

Carnival Ticket Sales: Responsible for organizing tickets for selling, sending a note home with raffle tickets attached and set-up, selling, pick-up and counting tickets after the carnival.

Carnival Volunteer Coordinator: Responsible for coordinating all volunteers for the carnival. Communicating with all committees in organizing any help in all areas. This is done by e-mail and then by phone.

Carnival Raffle/Silent Auction Chairperson: Responsible for gathering and set-up of all raffle and silent auction items. Work very closely with the donation committee. Will be making baskets for the silent auction and putting together smaller goodie bags and displaying Raffle items. Run the Raffle the day of the Carnival.

Carnival Donation Committee: Responsible for calling businesses and asking for donations for our silent auction/Raffle. Organizing pick-ups and organizing a list for our thank-you letter for the paper.(Great for someone who is at home during the day.)
This is a general overview of these areas and there will be lots of information from the years past to go from. Shawna will be your information source and will assist with any questions, thoughts ideas, guidance or time.
BOOK FAIR CHAIR: TERRY JACKSON
Types of volunteer work needed: Set-up a couple of days before the book fair and take down the last day of the book fair. The book fair is scheduled for the 2nd week of November, and then one in the Spring. Terry will also need help during the day to man the register and help students/teachers with book sales/restocking and straightening.
PIRTLE PESOS: Angie Mitchell
This is the 2nd year for Pirtle Pesos and is a wonderful PTA program designed to reward our kids for reading and having the RIGHTSTUFF! There will be a Pesos Market in December and again in May where the kids will spend their Pesos. We will need help at the markets with pricing, organizing merchandise, helping the kids choose gifts, cashing in Pesos and gift wrapping. The Pesos Holiday Market is on the PTA calendar the first full week in December.
REFLECTIONS: Elizabeth Varville
This years theme is “My Favorite Place” Reflections is a State PTA art contest held every year. Participating students have the chance to advance to regional, state and even national finals. Volunteers for this committee will help promote, sort entries, fill out award ribbons and fill out other information required for entries.
TIGER PAWS COMMITTEE: Corinna Capraun AND Co-Chair-Renea Buchanan
The Tiger Paws committee oversees the sale and protection of PTA property, including t-shirts, calendars, misc. items such as zipper pulls and coin purses, and gifts and books purchased or donated for the Pesos Markets. Right stuff is in charge of consumables such as paper plates, cups and napkins for food events. The committee also fulfills orders for PTA items and re-orders items when needed. Tiger Paws will also maintain the PTA closet where all of the above mentioned items are stored and communicate with the other committees to know exactly what they have in the closet for any and all events through the year.
WEBSITE CHAIR: Karen Mennen
The Website chair will need to be able to update the PTA website on a weekly or, biweekly bases and then place it on the BISD “Parents Page for Pirtle” website. This is in process at the moment and in the meantime we have a temporary website through www.ilovebelton.com/web/PirtlePTA/ that we may continue to use until the other is up and running.
YEARBOOK CHAIR: Drenda Capps
This committee will work with the yearbook company to put together our yearbook this year. They will need help gathering and organizing photos. They will also need to have parents throughout the year taking photos and donating them for the yearbook of school events, especially things like field trips and group shots. The Historian and the yearbook Chair should work closely together.
FOOD DRIVE: OPEN
This committee is in charge of 2 food drives we have each year to help families in our school or, community that are in need of a helping hand during the holidays. This committee needs someone to organize and promote the gathering and donations of food before Thanksgiving and before Christmas.
FOOD CHAIR: Jaylene Holman
This committee needs a chairperson. The chairperson's responsibilities would be to organize 3 different suppers, one during each book fair (fall& spring) and one during spring talent show (usually Pizza they will also be in charge of the food for the Spring Carnival.
CLASSROOM SUPPORT COMMITTEE CHAIRPERSON:Linda Davis
The committee will enlist room parents for every classroom teacher as well as act as a liaison between classroom teachers and room parents. The committee will have a room parent sign-up sheet at Kindergarten Round-up (May) and Meet the Teacher Night (August). The sign-up sheet will be compiled into a room parent/classroom teacher list for the entire school. The committee will fill vacancies by making phone calls to parents. The committee will ensure that each classroom teacher have a room parent no later than September1. The committee will have informational meetings in order to help room parents plan classroom parties and to discuss other ways to help in the classrooms. Meetings will be held in September and in January. The committee members will be responsible for providing teachers and staff members with support and recognition during the entire school year. Some examples: Birthday cards, staff “back to school” breakfast, a staff luncheon during Teacher Appreciation Week, recognition of staff on their national day with small trinket: Examples... Nurse’s day, school psychologist day, speech-language month, secretary’s day, etc.
TALENT SHOW CHAIRPERSON: DAINA TAYLOR
The Talent Show in February is a wildly popular event going into its fifth year now. Types of volunteers needed will be to help with the set-up, organizing students to go on stage, help with auditions a few days before, to help screen the talent, organize the program, and locate judges.
BOXTOPS CHAIRPERSON: DAWN ORANGE
The Boxtops Committee recruits kids by class to collect and turn in Boxtops which are cashed in at the end of the year or cash for our school and kids. Volunteers on this committee promote the program collect Boxtops from the rooms, count, sort and mail in Boxtops and participate in the awarding of prizes to classes who collect the most Boxtops. There are 2 main deadlines for Boxtops one in the Fall and one in the early spring.

We have many working parents that volunteer and would love for you to feel welcome and involved whether you work outside your home or, in your home there is plenty to do for everyone!

FYI... If you do not give contact info directly to the PTA by either becoming a member or, Volunteer then we do not have the access to contact you. The school is not allowed to give out personal info...Even to the PTA. So please if you are interested in helping out in any way or just recieving our e-mailed newsletters please give us your contact info!
